About Madeline

Madeline Feierstein is a historian of American history based in Alexandria, Virginia. She is particularly fond of researching psychiatric institutions, military hospitals, and prisons. Her meticulous research has been showcased at prestigious institutions, including the Alexandria Historical Society, D.C. Preservation League, and National Museum of Civil War Medicine. She spearheads significant projects documenting the soldiers who were treated and fell in Alexandria’s wartime hospitals.

Rooted in Place, LLC educates the public on the historical significance of sites, figures, and events. It provides educational materials, research services, and institutional consulting. She advocates for historic preservation through campaigns and social media, believing every building is a piece of American history that we can learn from. Madeline leads popular guided tours in Alexandria and Washington, D.C. through her LLC.

Madeline is an author and content creator for Emerging Civil War. Additionally, she is a writer for the National Museum of Civil War Medicine and Emerging Revolutionary War. Originally from Washington D.C., Madeline earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminology from George Mason University. She has received her Master of Arts in American History from Southern New Hampshire University.
